
About us
PIA Project is a primary prevention project for the reduction of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), in support of policies developed by the Member States, in a coordinated and wide-ranging action for the prevention of NCDs – cardiovascular diseases and diabetes at the individual and social level.
BACKGROUND
- Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) kill 41 million people each year, equivalent to 74% of all deaths globally;
- Each year, 17 million people die from a NCD before age 70; 86% of these premature deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries;
- Of all NCD deaths, 77% are in low- and middle-income countries;
- Detection, screening and treatment of NCDs, as well as palliative care, are key components of the response to NCDs.

RELEVANCE
PIA Project intends to develop a set of actions that contribute to the reduction of death from NCDs โ Cardiovascular Diseases and Diabetes, with a focus on premature death, through:
Promotion of educational actions for the reduction of risk behaviors in terms of health
Healthy eating, physical exercise, reduction of alcohol and tobacco consumption.
Training for action in a situation of cardiorespiratory arrest
Training of students and teachers in cardiorespiratory resuscitation.
Community empowerment
Creation of educational materials using accessible language, making it possible for a wider audience to understand
the problem.
Early identification of NCDs
Conducting health screenings and information sessions with vulnerable groups.
Pilot program for the prevention of sudden death
Disseminate the scientific results of the projects, enabling the creation of public policies.
Sharing of good practices and work
Identify effective and replicable solutions in various communities in the prevention of NCDs.
